You can see them here (http://www.heartsathomeboard.org/forums/showthread.php?t=98399) and here (http://www.heartsathomeboard.org/forums/showthread.php?t=97382)

Well here's what has happened since. Sometime in October, baby girl developed a diaper rash and after 2 weeks of trying to treat it it still hadn't gone away. This lead to a dr. appt. At the dr. appt we discussed some things. We decided to remove fruite from her diet and see if that helped her stools (which had been very loose and frequent forever and I had chalked it up to breastfeeding) and to see what happened. Things got better, we followed up in 10 days in which time she actually gained 5 oz (it took 3 months for her to do that between well check ups) and things had firmed up. We talked about slowly reintroducing fruit and seeing how things went. Well we discovered 2 fruits were safe the rest no so I just gave her the 2 fruits. Well things have now gone back to the way things were and so I've removed fruits from her diet again. However, things aren't firming back up. We've done 3 stool tests and I"m getting ready to push for some blood test. If I was to "self diagnosis" I would say she has a malasborspation issue but my dh is leaning towards lactose intolerance. Either way I feel like I"m going to have to become "momma bear" in order to get these tests done. Anyone have suggestions on how to do without seeming like a "know it all" or overbearing parent?

Wow! That is interesting! I have no idea how to push for getting tests done, I am struggling with this myself with Libby. I do want you to know though, that I am praying for you!

do you have a good 'relationship' with the doctor? if so... I'd just say "can you just humor me and order such & such?"

I have said that exact thing before and we found pneumonia in Josh. They weren't going to do a chest x-ray and I said "please just humor me". They were happy they did and have asked me since what I think we should do! :giggle:

Or, I have also started out by saying "I don't want to seem overbearing or step on any toes, but I have done a little research because I am so concerned and what do you think about _____________".

Sometimes it's easier to email, if you have that option with your doctor.

Otherwise, remember, you are paying THEM and YOU are the mom. :)

i would just ask for the tests. Say you are concerned about the weight and the issues and would they please order some tests that would check for x and y and whatever else the doc may wish to check.

I have a great relationship with her regular dr. but this is going through a PA because that's who we could get an appt. for with the diaper rash. I wish email was an option. I'm still waiting for them to call me back. I'll let you know what happens and thanks for the suggestions on phrasing it.

Can you leave a message specifically for the regular doctor and ask him/her to call you?

Since seven of us all have the same doctor for our primary care (and she delivered five of my kiddos), she is good about calling me personally any time I leave a message asking her to. (I will occasionally leave a message with the receptionist where I tell her that I want the doctor, NOT THE NURSE, to return my call).

I'm not much help on the growth issue, but dd is lactose intolerant, and I don't know of any test they can do to determine if your dd has that issue. Our dr told us that we would have to keep a journal of "what goes in and what comes out" and we would be able to see a pattern if she was lactose intolerant. My big clue that this was our issue was reading that too much dairy would cause constipation. Instead, in our case, any dairy caused diarrhea.

Also, our dd is sensitive to too much fruit, too much juice, and fake sweeteners, like in sugarless gum or "light" lemonade. I don't know how much of that passes through your milk, but if you have eat much of those things, that might be something to consider, in addition to limiting your dairy consumption.

Well a lactose problem hasn't been ruled out but something else is definately wrong and so we are being referred to a ped. gi. Our dr. wants us to be seen before Christmas so I'm waiting to hear about the appt. date.

I am sorry that it was not the dairy. Will be praying for a fast appt and answers.

My youngest had a terrible bleeding rash that no cream would resolve. He also had very loose stools.I took all dairy out of my diet and it disappeared completely. It might be worth a try.
