I post a rather long vent/rant on the public school board. I truly feel like there need to be more resources for child who have IEPS and are struggling. I know school systems mishandle their resources. If I had more money I would be homeschooling both my children for this reason among others. Sorry for the long post over there... just needed to get it out.

Rhonda, it *is* rather sad the way that the school districts tend to write off the IEP kids as "lost causes" and would rather put their money were they feel they can get more of an "investment return". As a homeschooler, I can tell you that I have seen a trend over the last ten or so years that more and more mothers with special needs children are starting to homeschool their children. It is *difficult* to do because many times the mothers need to have specialized training themselves, but there are organizations popping up around the country that will provide that training to homeschooling moms. It's an interesting trend to watch taking form. The trend still has a long way to go, however.

Karen , My heart is for those "lost causes" and for every child being neglected due to the judgement calls of those in "charge" in our school systems. My DS who struggled so in public school is showing his true potential at home! He has scored nothing below a B grade on his testing at the homeservice academy we use. The powers that be in the public school system deemed him a "lost cause" so they labled him a liar and a trouble maker. I feel there are so many teachers who prefer to attend to the kids that are "near mastery" or "on grade level" that there is true neglect going on .. there is not true education of children in our local school system. Well liked and easily instructed children are getting the lions share of the resources . Teachers are teaching to the test in many cases and true educational needs are being left unmet.

And unfortunately, IMO, the system requires this of the teachers. Scores equate funding.

Rhonda you have a big heart.

Thank you for the compliment. I used to tutor adults in reading. While I lived in North Carolina I tutored adults who had fallen through the cracks. I saw first hand what a impact a poor education had made on those lives. Literacy is so very important. Just the other day I was thinking of it as a ministry. Teaching people to read so that they could read God's word would make such a huge growth in God's kingdom for His word will not return void.
