He lives at the beginning of our street. Thankfully he let his dogs out and then ran to the culdesac part and not the busy street much closer. It was the neighbor dog barking that brought out attention.

He could walk but doesn't talk other than baby jibberish. I was mortified to walk my street in my capri jammies and flip flops but knew I had no choice.

Ds4 ran ahead and rang their door bell. He found a neighborhood soccer ball (who knows who owns it- all the kids play and it just get left in whatever yard) so he and I played kick the ball to get him to go home. When I told him to go home he was like "Why?" I understood that one.

Poor mom had no idea, was so embarrassed. I felt for her. She said he knows how to unlock doors (youngest of 3) so her dh put a top lock on but she had not relocked it this a.m.

oh my - that could've have been so bad. Thankfully, you heard the dog and went to check it out. Glad everything is ok. Kiddos can slip away so quickly.

I had that happen to me. I couldnt find ds. A lady got ds before he got to a busy road. I was mortified. We had just moved and I didnt realize ds could step up on the stairs and reach the deadbolt. The lady screamed at me telling me what a horrible mother I was

So glad yyou were the one to take the little one back and not lay into her like that.

SO glad you found him and brought him home safely!!! I had that happen to me when my 10 year old was 2. He could unlock the deadbolt, but I didn't know it - I had put on a movie, and jumped in the shower real quick. I wound up running down the street in a towel to catch him. Yep - we installed a top lock real quick after that!

Thanks ladies. I think that is why I felt so bad for her. I truly understood.

We have a top lock too because right after we moved in to this house, my 2-yo that had night terrors got out the front door in the wee hours one morning. We were all asleep. (he's now 9)

Thankfully, the one set of neighbors we had gotten to know really well and ds4 loved heard screaming as he was drinking his morning coffee. Ds4 was on a dead run for that busy road. Neighbor was 6'4" and an athletic man. He ran him down and brought him home, to sleeping parents :thud:

Ya know...every time I see this post back up at the top of the board...I think "ANOTHER ONE! Geesh! Where does this lady live?!" :giggle:

That happened to me one time. When DS was 2 he had figured out how to unlock the doors and went strolling around the neighborhood. I had no idea. When the doorbell rang and I went to answer the door, you can just imagine my shock seeing my neighbor standing on my porch, holding my son. :embarassed:

Thank you all.

I don't feel like such a ba mom now.

Just 2 weeks or so ago, dd#3 went outside (without me knowing it) and got up to the busy street in town(we only live a block from it). She was at the corner pushing the button to change the light. :biglaugh:

People called the police, because they were afraid she was going to get out in the street and she was pushing the button.

I relized she was gone, hadn't been but a few minutes and went to find her (thought she would be on the trampoline, as they had been playing on it before they came in).

Anyway, I got talked to from the policeman about keeping better track of my daughter and did I know where she was then (we were leaving for dance pictures, which is why I didn't see her leave the house).

Anyways, you have made me feel better that I'm not the only one with littles that have gotten out without us knowing it.
