I have one of the dvd's (entitled "Dust") but haven't watched it yet. It was a Christmas gift.
My friend (who gave it to me) highly recommends them. They use them at her church.

So, is this something we can do as a Bible study without the books? Or do we need to purchase the books?
I'm looking for something without "homework" and study materials - just Bible.

DH has purchased all 18 of them because his sunday school class loves them so much. Rob Bell is very new agey. Artsy type guy but most of the lessons are very basic type Christian lessons. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the one where he talks about taking his little boy out on a hike (and he is packing his toddler on his back with one of those carrier thingys) and it starts raining. Its called 'Rain' I think. But it talks about how his little toddler cries and just gets terrified by the storm and what it felt like to be able to comfort him. After that one, I was HOOKED. There are some really great videos that he does! Anyway it was a HUGE hit with the young adults class that dh teaches. A couple of them are artsy and musicians they love Rob Belll so dh gets a Nooma DVD every time a new one comes out. Also DH and I helped out with High School church camp over the summer and they played a NOOMA DVD and it went over very well with the high schoolers.

Is this the guy with the glasses and kind of spikey blonde hair and he usually wears black or something? If it is, we have watched them and while the messages are good, the guy drives me batty. I dont' know how to explain it other than he seems too impressed with his own "realness" or something. I don't know. He just drives me up the wall for some reason! :dunno:

This is the PERFECT lesson for you then! We did these with our high school and junior high in small groups, you could also do them in a larger group too.
I loved "Rain" -- by far my favorite one! The CD comes with a mini-lesson in the cover with discussion questions that you could expand on.

He's almost alltogether different in his sermons. The way his messages are delivered are different. In a couple of his videos he talks about "talking to his counselor" Not the GREAT COUNSELOR like you may be thinking his earthly counselor and I thought "yeah, I could see that" him going to counseling that is.
But I've seen all 18 videos and they are good. But if you get into reading his books, he's a bit on the edge of Christianity. Some of his theology is a bit different. He talks about Jesus' first three miracles being related to other pagan Gods/:hmm:
