first off - you can use any raw veggies or fruits you like to do this. these are just my basic recipes. if i have something else on hand, i just use that.
i try to stick to fresh or frozen stuff because canned just does not have the same *zappers* (vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants, etc. ) the others do. my exception is lite canned apricots - they are just loaded with good stuff and so easy to use.
i don't use carrots or tomatoes in my juicing for two reasons - i eat enough of them during regular meals and also because heat actually makes their zappers more abundant, unlike most other veggies/fruits.
so, for the directions -
twice a week i make four quart ball canning jars full of juice. then i just drink about a quart a day. most of these do not taste good but are easy to just slurk down. .
for 4 quarts:
--fill blender halfway with a dark lettuce or other green like spinach. add juice and pulp of a lemon. add can of lite apricots or a small bag of frozen peaches. fill with water to within an inch of top of blender. blend for 30 seconds. let settle. liquify for 30 seconds. pour into quart jars and refrigerate. (it fills about 1 1/2).
--again, fill blender halfway with dark lettuce or other green. add juice and pulp of an orange. add two bananas. add a small handful of berries or strawberries or fresh cherries. fill with water to within an inch of top of blender. blend for 30 seconds. let settle. liquify for 30 seconds. pour into quart jars and refrigerate.
--last time, fill blender halfway with dark lettuce or other green. add juice and pulp of a lime. add a banana. add two big handfuls of blueberries. fill with water to within an inch of top of blender. blend for 30 seconds. let settle. liquify for 30 seconds. pour into quart jars and refrigerate.
--wash and store blender. make sure juice is refrigerated.
you really can substitute alot with this but i do want to mention that the brighter and darker and more varied the colors of what you use, the better. you get a much broader line of zappers.
and remember to include blueberries. they are one of the best zappers around and very good for you to have on a regular basis.
drinking one quart of this gets me about 4-5 veggies and fruits without hardly trying. add a snack and dinner and you are very much up to the 8-10 optimal fruits and veggies they recommend a day.
any questions, just email me at emyanne at bee dot net.
