I would love to know if there are support groups here in town were parents get together to get ideas how to help our kids. I m in councling starting next month which is a big step for me, and I hope it works. I would love to become part of a parents group that might help me understand that we as parents arn't alone. My husband says that I need more friends.. ( a life ) outside the home because i live and breathe for my children. But if there was such a group I could kill two birds with one stone. Make friends and care for my kids. Im screaming inside for someone to help me understand what I as a mother need to do to help my step son and myself... hope you can help.

Hi Lynda,
This board has people from all over the world. But if you feel comfortable clarifying what town you are in, we might have someone from your area who can help, or I would be happy to do a little internet research and see if I can find some leads for you.

Hi Lynda,
I think, from you're former post, that your step son has add/adhd. There is an organization called CHADD - Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. You can find it online at CHADD.org. They have local support groups - maybe there is one in your area.
I know I find the support group I go to very helpful. First in knowing that I am not alone and that other kids (and their parents) are having similar difficulties. Also, I've gotten some good practical advice from parents who have dealt successfully with similar behaviors and issues with their children. And sometimes I find out about good programs or specialist that other families are utilizing that I otherwise may not of been aware of.
You are not alone, Lynda. There are many moms out there trying to figure out how to best meet the needs of our special children. And it can be heartbreaking for us as mothers as well as consuming. Please know that the ladies here know what you are going thru and understand. And remember that God knows too and He will not leave you (or your stepson) or forsake you.
Please keep us posted on how things are going in your family!
