Hello ladies,
My family is moving from Oviedo Florida (pretty much Orlando) to Erlangen/Nurnberg/Herzogenaurach/Furth Germany...it's in Bavaria.
Here's my pickle and forgive me for vanity. NONE of our electrical appliances will work there--not a big deal, we will be given allowances from his work to get more AFTER we get there. In the mean time, I just updated my hair style with lots of layers and bangs but it only behaves when I use a hair dryer and a 2" curling iron--both of which have heating elements and therefore will not work overseas. I know I can buy new ones there, but does anyone know where I can get them and for how much??
I really don't want to be frompy wife/mommy. I just got out of this rut so I'd look attractive for my husband and myself. Any ideas??

Can you not purchase the converters for your electrical outlet in the bathroom?

No, not practical for all electrical items. It's considered cheaper to buy appliances and small electrical then to buy the transformer and pay the extra electricity...different voltage. Laptop will work because the power cord has the voltage converter built in...desk top wouldn't work...just have to get plug adapters to fit the holes. For all other electrical items, I am SOL because the voltage will fry things :gaah:. Nothing with a heating element can be made to work there....
So curling iron and hair dryer...where do I buy these? Maybe someone who lives in the UK would know?

In the UK they have stores that sell them just like in the US. I am sure you could also buy them at a salon.

My dad used to live in Germany and I just traveled there this spring with Hearts at Home.
You won't have any problem finding a store where you can purchase hair appliances. There are several chain stores in different parts of Germany and as someone else suggested, they would sell things at salons.
You may have to endure a few days of limp hair, but just ask a local when you arrive and they can give you some direction.
By the way, the Nurnberg airport is awesome! Very new and pleasant.

Well I used to live in Oviedo AND in Amberg Germany I was like :thud: when I read this how weird. :hmm:
Anyway, it is easy to find stores all over that sell stuff (department store chains) just like here. You can easily find what you need and more:giggle:).
Enjoy your adventure it is beautiful there.

That has got to be a change and 1/2 for you all. What does your husband do that you all are moving there for him to work?

We've never had problems. He has adapters for the computer and has purchased any other items he needs there. There are tons of stores you can find things at. Probably even the airport, although I wouldn't pay airport prices.
Try not to fret! It will all work out!
