Dh and I saw this tonight. It's PG and really funny. The story and the moral message was really good. I think kids who are older (like grade school and above) would enjoy it. I just can't see my own son watching it, but I would let him watch it, I just doubt he'd get what the message was and sit through it. I didn't hear foul language...a couple references to a bad word about to be said..but not said. It's really a great story that takes Even Baxter from Bruce Almighty and forwards it a few years to him being elected into Congress...he wants to change the world and his wife just wants the family to get closer...hence the building of the ark. It was fun seeing all the animals and just the silliness of steve carell. Anyway it was really cute and great for the family.

DH and I went to see Evan Almighty last night. I would definitely recommend seeing this movie. We really enjoyed it, actually much more than Bruce Almighty.

GOOD! I was hoping! Looking for something to do with the kids on Thursday or Friday to celebrate school being out...one of the theatres is starting matinees on Thursday, and it's the kids' one!

A good movie that the whole family can see! Wish Hollywood understood that if they made more movies like that, we would spend the $ to go see movies more often! Can't wait to take the kids! Thanks for the review.

Just wondering -- it doesn't make fun of the Bible story of Noah? Isn't he building this because of a message from God? Not trying to cause major issue debate, just wondering.

Seems to me since God promised to never destroy the world by flood that if He does it makes Him a liar. I would love for it to be good, b/c my dks really want to see it.

Somebody that's seen it, tell me what you think, please.

(I'm not wanting to start a controversy, so please don't think that.)

to answer some questions, no it does not make fun of the real NOAH, although Evan is made fun of for building the ark and saying that God told him to do it. (SPOILER)....it was not about destorying the earth again by flood...in the end it's only the one local lake that floods...but it doesn't even really "flood" the dam breaks and causes flooding in one valley. I didn't feel uncomfortable at any moment...it wasn't sacreligous...really it showed a man who barely ever prayed...obeying God, finding out that his plan for his life was hurting his family and this task to build the ark was more about the family coming together again and not about the flood coming (or in this case the dam breaking. There was a great scene when evan's wife and kids were sitting in a diner eating...the boys left to go to the bathroom and "God" came over posing as the waiter....there conversation went into him saying that when people pray for patience, they aren't given patience, they are given the chance to be patient, or when someone prays for courage, they aren't given courage, they are put into a situation where they can show courage, and if someone prays for family closeness (something evan's wife prayed for), then a situation will come to bring the family together...that's when she realizes she needs to support her husband (evan) in building the ark, when though it seems so strange to her....in the end the family is closer through doing the task...the movie also used ARK as way to tell people that it's random acts of kindness that can change the world..."Change the World" was Evan's campaign theme and how he came to Congress...he loses sight of the little things and his family thinking he could change the world in bigger ideas in congress....really it was a really good film...there are some flaws and it's not a "bible" movie....it's a hollywood movie using the idea of Noah, the ark, and the idea of a flood...but it's really a story about Evan and his family...building the ark was just the task to bring them together. I think for all the things they could have done or do do in other movies, this movie was really good for family....It seems hollywood does one decent family movie every six months or so...starting with CARS, Night at the Musuem...etc...I think the pluggedinonline review is good...except I really don't agree with Dobson's take on it

added to answer another question...yes Evan is told to build the ark......

I appreciate knowing, b/c as I said, my girls are really wanting to see it and I had no clue whether it was appropriate or not. It's so hard to know whether or not we can trust "Hollywood".

Thank you very much for your review.

I thought it was very cute. Had a nice message. Eight year old did not laugh as much as I thought he would but he did smile a lot. He did say, "when I picture God I don't think of him as being black though more tannish" I thought that was cute.

and also Dr. Dobson's review. Haven't seen the movie yet, but want to. I have considered taking the girls, haven't decided yet. Dobson's major disagreement was 1. several uses of ***, which I do cringe at - my dds have been taught that this is a curse word, never to be said =taking the Lord's name in vain 2. it "retells" the story of Noah albeit modern day, but the ARK = Acts of Random Kindness suggest that is why God initially destroyed the world with a flood, people weren't being kind enough - as Dobson points out, it was because of the evil in the world. Also, a few "what the....." and "son of a......" Like so many other movies, there are things said in movies that could easily be left out, would be less offensive and they don't add to the movie by including them.
Ok, ramble over.

We're going to have to go again and take Brian (just the girls and I went)...

I thought it was VERY respectful of God....awesome explanations about answers to prayer...and Morgan Freeman certainly makes a ore loveable God than George Burns (and now I'm dating myself, lol)!!!

We chose between it and Ratatouille....we're supposed to be going with friends sometime this week, though, so we'll prob see it then.
