Portland, Maine???

Maine is beautiful. We traveled there a few years ago. We only spent one day in Portland, and most of it at the LL Bean complex - I had no idea it was so huge. Definitely worth a stop. We also traveled further up the coast to Camden, a quaint seacoast town. It's becoming more touristy, but still beautiful. If you can, take a windjammer cruise out on the bay. Amazing. Just a little further up the coast is a town called Lincolnville, and Lincolnville Beach. It's not as well known to the tourists, and our kids had a great time playing at the beach, looking for shells, etc. It was great both at high tide and low. Oh, and you can get take-out lobster and eat right on the beach. Now that's New England. When we go back again in a few years, we'll definitely be headed there! Hope you'll have a great trip!
