How is everyone doing? Anybody start anything new??

I'm still working on the blanket. It has several panels. Just takes awhile to get those done.

I have done a scarf. Started another scraf. And started a shawl.

I have more than enough yarn for several other things. Just need to finish the ones I've started.

I'm sooooooooooo not good about pictures. That requires too much computer work for me. And I don't take pictures of my works.

I've done nothing in way too long. Haven't touched my sewing machine since before Thanksgiving. Need to get it out again though before Muffin arrives. Maybe you've inspired me.

Do you crochet or knit (or both)? I really want to learn to knit, but have nobody to teach me right now, unfortunately. A friend's mom is going to teach me to crochet one of these days...

I do both. I'm still very new to it, too. I bought a beginners book from Wal-Mart for the knitting. And got the crochet one from Michaels. Both books have good instructions. My mom does both, so I do have her to help me through it. You might ask around church to see if someone does it there. I bet someone would be willing to help you get started and mentor you.

YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Good for you! I had to go and move and we never got to crochet together! shoot.

I made a blanket about a month ago. I love it. I've made tons of blankets, but I normally don't get to keep them. I make them for friends and for my kids.

I made the last one so fast and now I really want to make another one...I just have the itch to crochet right now....but my yarn is in Indiana and I don't have any extra money to buy more right now....

What colors are you using on the blanket that you are making? Are you knitting or crocheting the blanket?

What kind of yarn do you like? I really am liking the Vanna yarn. There's another brand that I really like, but I can't think of the name of it right off of the top of my head :hmm:

Enjoy!

I've finished crocheting one baby blanket, and have started a "new" one for some reason. :)

I'm like you Kristie, I don't take pictures of that stuff. I guess I should start.

See how you are!!!

The blanket is in almost hot pink, rose pink, pink camo and beige. It all looks pretty together. For that I'm using Red Heart yarn. I'm knitting it.

Scarf 1: was knitted in yarn I got for $1 skein at a yarn shop here in Indy.

Scarf 2: is going to be knitted with different $1/skein yr from same yarn shop.

Shawl: Knitted using Lion Brand Homespun.

Crocheting:
I'll crochet a blanket as a wedding gift using Caron Simple Soft yarn. I'll use three colors at one time using my 'P' hook. I use 4 skeins for it and I put an edge around it when I'm done. The edge is usually a solid color. Single crochet stitch. VERY EASY!! And its pretty thick and heavy. Wonderful for snuggling in. That one I can usually do in about 2 weeks, but that just depends on how much free time I have.

Yarns:
I like Caron Simple Soft ( or simply soft??). I just love it. But I'm learning to love the more expensive yarn in yarn shops. And because crocheting uses more yarn than knitting, I'm doing more knitting so that I can afford the really good yarn.

If you guys have to come back up for a bit while the house is selling, we WILL get together. I'll take you to the yarn shops.

My goal for this yr is to knit my own cardigan sweater and a pair of socks. Then I'd like to make mittens, gloves. I think those would be cool gifts to give to the kids (niece, nephews, cousins, neighborhood kids). Ideally, it would be awesome to make a whole bunch of scarves and mittens to give to elementary schools for the kids that need them. IPS discovered yesterday that there were several kids without coats, mittens, scarves. Makes me sad.

I rambled, but I'm totally enjoying this knitting/crocheting stuff. AND I have a serious yarn addiction. :giggle:

Baby blankets are one of those gifts that's nice to have an extra of. I would like to do some and have them on hand for new babies. The pattern I have for crocheting is super simple. Doesn't take much to get it done.

Wow, good for you!! I'm a little intimidated by knitting. I think that I could do it. People tell me that crocheting is harder and I can crochet pretty well.

I have used the simply soft yarn but I haven't been as satisfied with it. It's really soft, but at the same time I always feel like I have to use a really tight needle otherwise it's too....I dunno....too holey. Does that make sense?

I think that is why I've taken such a liking to the Vanna yarn. It's soft and yet still a sturdy yarn. And I love the colors that she has available. Course I love all of the Lion yarns for the most part.

I made one last month and used probably 15 skeins of yarn! It's got a taupe and a tan/cream color and a greyish purple color. I love it. I've only ever made one other one for myself. I wish I could remember the brand of that yarn so I could tell you what it was. It was navy and white....looks very nautical. I love that one too. It's in IN though, so I'm not using it.

I let my kids go to the store and pick out the colors that they want...I just have one stipulation....every color has to be from the same yarn brand, lol. I don't care what color/brand they want, as long as the whole blanket is done in the same brand.

Anyway, I get carried away with crochet talk too. It's one of the few things that I actually have of my mother. She taught me how to crochet when I was, probably, 20 years old. She did almost nothing motherly with me so it's special to me that I can at least be thankful for that.

I'd love to go to the yarn shops with you! Sorry I moved before we could crochet together. :\
