So older dd was just diagnosed with sensory integration disorder. And we are pursuing OT. Just reading the back cover of this book (the out-of sync kid) describes my child exactly! And reading the red flags of "sensory disorder" on this website my dad found, my dd hits one after the other after the other. I feel so guilty yet so happy that I am not a bad mom. I thought I wasn't being consistent with her early enough on...but she does follow...she just gets overwhelmed at story time when they stop reading and stand up and do a finger play...now I understand why she stands up 1/2 way through the story like "now what?" even though we've been there for over a year! And she has a "cow" about glue, and then sun...sorry...I can go on and on.

I hope this book and time with an OT will be a HUGE blessing to you and to her.
You are a good mom, my friend...please don't doubt that!

I am just thankful that you are figuring this out and can get help for her to deal with things better. Like I said in your other post...The Out of Sync Child Has Fun is a great book too. Same authors but it is all about different activities that you can do with her that will help her adapt with the sensory issues. It is basically what OT's would do with a child with SID. Once she gets an OT, you can ask them what they would recommend out of the book (bringing the book to them) to see if some things would help more then others but it is a great book to get ideas from AND not as dry of a read as the first book. LOL The first book has great information but is a really technical read so it can be difficult to stay with it for more then a chapter or two at a time.

Mommy guilt is a hard thing. And I know what you mean by being relieved that it wasn't you.
We had a very late dx for ds for autism because every time I talked about it, mil would tell me it was me and that I was "too kind". I remember almost having a sigh of relief when we were told he met the criteria for autism.
It sounds like you have some great resources for SID. Our experience with OT has been great. I hope yours will be too.
Fabtxmomma (who sadly doesn't post here anymore) has tons of great links in the sticky above for sensory issues.
