It was good in that I thought it showed a very healthy family life: good relationships between dad and dds/ds and dad and mom, etc. But, the overall premise of the movie, the man wants to go into space. Well, I thought he was selfish, personally. He almost bankrupts his family and there is a real chance he can die either leaving or coming back plus all kinds of things that can happen while you're in space (not saying if he does or not or even if he gets into space)
He is offered the chance to ride in a shuttle launch but insists on doing it himself.
I mean, I want to visit Europe. It's always been my dream. Maybe I should run up all my credit cards to make it happen, so I can realize that dream. It had a lot going for it as a movie, but the main idea was just kind of empty and self gratifying for me. :dunno:

We really enjoyed it.
I did think the oddtime that he was being selfish, but I thought the bigger message was more important...not only the family ties issue, but the dreaming big one too....
And I had a HUGE "a-ha!" moment when his friend told him the gov't was "after" him b/c if he could do it for $300,000, the 16.2 Billion the space program wastes every year was in jeapardy.
I think the space program is ridiculous to begin with (put men in space, wasting all that money, while children in Appalachia are starving....), so it was interesting to see how much they truly waste, and how far the gov't goes to cover it up.

My dh has been trying to rent this from 2 video stores for about 2 weeks now and it's always gone. I may go check later while he's at work and see if they have any copies back yet.

Maybe I was just in a mood. It was heartwarming the way the family interacted and it was clean. A few swear words here and there, but nothing horrible. I guess I've never been that big into space stuff. :dunno:
I thought that was interesting too about the $$ involved in the space program and the $$ that guy would spend. I'm sure NASA would be rather upset to be shown up that way and for far less money. I am never really sure what good NASA really does. As you said, there are plenty of needs right here. It seems a very high price for curiosity. :dunno:
It hit me, during this movie though, is ANY big dream worthwhile?

I will have to see if we can get the movie.
I agree about the space program. I think it is totally ridiculous to spend billions of dollars to send men to the moon while some children here are starving and have no warm clothes have no healthcare and some even living in boxes under bridges in the big cities or in their cars.

Didn't see the movie. But in NASA's defense. The space program does a lot more than just explore. They do lots of research, medical and agricultural especially, that has led to many advances in these areas. There are things that can be studied and discovered in a zero gravity, oxygen controlled environment.
Just FYI :)

Just for your information: My cousin is an extra in this movie.
I haven't seen it yet, but she tells me that you can see her and know it is her (if you know her).

She's definitely in there, Nise. And you can tell it's her.
