DS went to the high school this morning for his orientation . They ran the bus. I would have been allowed to go but DS did not want me to. He should be home around 11 or 11:30 . I hope things went well. He is having a disagreement with his best friend. This friend is the one he rides the bus with and they had a falling out. :\ He also had a falling out with his cousin while speaking online over the game system. I do not know if this is because he is nervous about the changes that are coming or what. He is so stubborn he will not listen when I tell him he should try to repair his friendships.

Anyway that is my DS ramble for now. I think I am more nervous for him starting high school then I was for him to start kindergarten.

I hope his morning goes well. Maybe the bus ride will help mend the friendships. I know what you mean about being more nervous than when he started K - I know I am. DS1 starts hs this fall, too. Orientation is in 2 weeks. He hasn't visited the hs yet, his teacher didn't take the 8th graders last year and so far this summer, I cannot get anyone one the phone to arrange a visit. DS will have 1 or maybe 2 classes with peers, the rest of his classes will be in the exceptional childrens room. I am very nervous about those classes.

It's always hard to step back and let our kids grow up. You're doing a great job Momma!

I guess it went ok. He seems a little taken back by the size of the school but other then that was very descriptive about his orientation. That is one thing I can always count on with DS.. he likes to keep us informed. Oh and things are better with his friend. They talked things out. Thank the Lord!

I'm glad he's mended the friendship, that in itself is a great learning opportunity! I hope the transition to HS goes well for him!

YEA on things looking brighter than they were in February :). Everybody needs a good friend at school and I'm glad things are smoothed over with his.

It's great that he told you all about the orientation. You were wise to let him go on his own. He may not have kept opening up otherwise. I'm so glad that he and his friend were able to talk things out.

Your DS sounds like a fine young man. You've done a great job raising him!

Linda you gave me happy tears reading your reply. DS is so open with us. That is a very real true blessing in all of this difficulty we have had down through the years. I praise God for that.

Rhonda forgive me if you've answered this somewhere else, when do they start school?

If they have already, how is ds doing?

their first full day was this past Tuesday. We had a little mix up with classes but DH got them to abide by our wishes. We had a change in his IEP late in the year and they had DS in some classes that were not the best for him. He seems to be doing ok at this point. He is in JR ROTC and really seems to be liking it. He is talking a great deal about it so that seems like a good thing. He says school is boring .. just as he had in the past but he does seem to like somethings about being a high school student. Now we need to keep him on track academically and that is our major challenge. He seems to be doing well with both his counselors. One is our Pastor ..whom DS loves and respects . The other is a counselor through our church association.. it is a little costly but worth it to know that we have someone to guide us and knows how to counsel someone with DS's needs.
