I have a bunch for the girls this school year and could pick one of those, but I was thinking it might be fun to have a non-school related one for our family to read. Last winter we read Swiss Family Robinson.
What are some GOOD books your whole family enjoys? (The girls and I are big huge wimps, so we won't be reading Where the Red Fern Grows, or Old Yeller anytime soon!)

Your girls are young, right?
Emily's runaway imagination is great, as is anything by beverly clearly charolette's web, anything by ronald dahl, older kids, we like the authors: avi, gary paulson, eva issobott (sp?), the little house books, etc |

Charlotte's Web is a good one. We've read it a few times.
I'm looking for one that's an adventure one my husband would enjoy reading with us.

Boxcar children
I love these books, not really the same thing as Swiss family or anything, but really good. Tales of the kingdom Tales of the resurrection Tales of the restoration

We read a lot of Boxcar Children around here. DD (7) tells me she doesn't want me to stop at the end of a chapter "because we are at a suspenseful part!" I think the first 20 or so are best; they were written by Gertrude Chandler Warner. The rest were written by, well, we don't really know, but it says "created by G. C. W." instead of listing an author, and they are copyrighted after her death. They aren't bad, but my favorites were the early ones.
I believe there are a few as "books on tape" too if you're interested. |

Have you done the Chronicles of Narnia? My family loved that one.
We recently finished Trumpet of the Swan - that was good too.
